  Minehowe - The Underground Enigma

Is Minehowe actually unique?

Steps at the Broch of Gurness

The Gurness Steps

Pictured during the excavation of the Broch of Gurness in the 1930s is the steep flight of stone steps leading down to the "cellar" underneath the broch.

When this picture appeared within the pages of The Orcadian newspaper in 1930, the steps were hailed as "a unique feature as compared with similar structures in Orkney."
