ROWSAY
Rousay,
as if it were the island of Rouland, is a large island, and the
greater proportion of it is uncultivated.
In circuit this island is eight
miles, and contains very high mountains, that very often appear
as if lighted up with fire at night, not lighted by men, which is
indeed very wonderful*.
* - this is an intriguing reference and
either relates to lights associated with folkloric creature such
as trows, or pehaps
hints that Jo Ben witnessed the Aurora Borealis during his trip
to Rousay.
