Introduction
A team of archaeologists is back on Wyre, returning to the site of a Neolithic settlement site on the island.
The site, at the Brae o' Habreck, was discovered in 2006, after a fieldwalking exercise. Subsequent excavation has confirmed the presence of a Neolithic settlement site - which could be very early in date.
Site director is Antonia Thomas, leading a team of Archaeological Practice MA students from Orkney College and professional archaeologists working as volunteers. Dan Lee of ORCA is supervising the fieldwork.
The excavations are funded by Orkney Islands Council, Orkney Research Centre for Archaeology (ORCA) and the Society for Antiquaries Scotland with additional resources provided by the Department of Archaeology, Orkney College UHI, the Flaws family, Wyre Community Association and Orkney Ferries. |
